The Tesoro Compadre is in my opinion the best entry level metal detector. The main reason is it’s high operating frequency. Higher then all other entry level detectors. It is also one of if not the cheapest detector you can say is NOT a toy.

    I think this is a British CH-47 :-)

    You are correct!

Agree to Disagree I would agree, I would say it beats the Fisher but not the250 as far as a all around detector and the ace is great in wet sand and high trash areas on low sensitivity along with totlots. You’ll dig alot of trash with the250 also since you cant really tell whats in the ground and as you run it over the target multi times it comes up 10cent ect even as pull tab. I have compared compadre to the250 and AT Pro and other thousand dollar detectors, it does well for the money

Thanks a lot for the claification. As I suspected. . . .they all do the same thing. Mostly a matter of bells and whistles. . . . The tresoro is in the digging.

. Cool. Good luck with your detecting buddy:)

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree. I acknowledge the Ace and F2 are GREAT machines and would make almost anyone a happy camper.

However what makes me happiest is getting the pricey stuff. That means gold and jewelry. And yes, when I get a consistent signal, I dig. That doesn’t make it bad, it has discrimination just like your detector.

I guess I look at it this way, if the signal is strong, I’m going to want to know what it is and I’m going to dig it up.

Nice review, but I believe the Ace & F2 are better machines. The Compadre has no form of Target ID. The higher frequency will make it more sensitive to low conducters like gold, nickles, foil and pull tabs. You are going to dig tons and tons of trash with this machine. The other machines at least give you a clue with sound and a visual ID as to what you may have discovered. If you want to dig coins and silver, the other machines would be much better.

Such a helpful review, A Godsend! Thank You!

  11. hoshnasi says:

There is a problem with your logic… Pin pointing, a screen and multiple “modes” a better detector does not make.

The Tesoro operates at a higher frequency which means it is better at finding small and awkward to sound off items, like rings and jewelry.

Let me be clear here though. While I prefer the Compadre of the Ace250 for my type of use I feel the 250 is an EXCELLENT beginner detector and will serve you well. I just have a preference.

  12. JulianSaiyan98 says:

The garret ace 250 is so much better at zn affordable price of $250 it has a pinpoint button and five modes and garret has its own brand that junk has no screen

I’m happy you found the video helpful. I’m even happier you’re having success!

I finally made up my mind after seeing this video to purchase a Tesoro Compadre. Love it…. it really is the best all around MD. And I’ve tested it on small flakes of gold and it does pick them up. Amazing price

  15. micmoable says:

I owned a MXT also and that was a super good beach sand hunter–wish I’d kept it but the 7″ coil Compadre(They used to have 7″ coils)was a good little detector

  16. micmoable says:

My Compadre was pretty decent in trash but I’ve owned many Tesoros–my fav=GOLDEN UMAX—–BY THE WAY, Which other detector do you use besides the Compadre? I may buy another Compadre sometime for trashy lots—bet the 5.75 coil is better than the 7″ I owned for trash

  17. micmoable says:

Typically, lower frequencies go deeper but higher frequencies=more sensitive to gold

  18. micmoable says:

had one of the first type compadres with 7 inch coil—it was good in most situations down to around 6 inches but wasn’t worth a crap on wet sand of saltwater beach–but on land it did admirably and I found as much as some guys with much more expensive units—-but I’ve owned 800 buck machines and many detectors over the years—

  19. ImageRiver says:

Good review. My Compadre came in last night and I went out for a couple of hours today and found an earring and pendant. (Both junk unfortunately). Great little MD.

  20. psychicjordan says:

This is a great video review of the Tesoro Compadre and shows exactly how my own Compadre performs! I can actually tell exactly how deep to dig by the sound of the beep and “my gift”. I found several small .925 silver jewelry including a tiny mother horse with a baby horse charm from a charm bracelet, toe rings, and most recently a small ladies ring. I’d like visual stuff and multi segment notching to counter my disability though.

  21. cotharyus says:

Excellent review, thanks for this. I didn’t realize the coil on this unit was not interchangeable. It makes me want to consider the Silver uMax instead, but I don’t want to get too complex for my first detector, I just want a good solid unit. I’ll likely spend most time artifact hunting.

  22. hoshnasi says:

I’m glad you liked the review. I too like the 250, I just happened to go with the Compadre. I think by and large that the 250 is a great coin shooter and the lower khz. probably works in its favor when finding silver.

  23. pulltabMiner says:

Excellent review. I own the 250 and find that your statements ring pretty true. Having said that, I’ve recovered silver quarters at between 7” and 8″ with a nice solid signal identified as a quarter by the md. Silver dimes sound nice and solid at about 4.5″ and a little choppy at 5″ and not at all beyond that. Of course, this could vary a little depending on soil conditions. Anyway, nice md for the price. I’d keep it in my car and not worry about it. After all, it has a life time warranty :)

  24. hoshnasi says:

The 250 has lack luster pinpointing and there is no way you are recovering anything at 12 inches in the ground. By all means though make a video a recovering items at 12 inches and prove me wrong.

Please keep in mind that the difference between the Compadre and the 250 is over $100.00 and the Compadre can find small gold that the 250 would never detect.

The 250 is a great detector, but you sound like a fan boy over it.

  25. sidnallie47 says:

the ace 250 would wipe the floor with the compadre, does it only have one tone for everything, how many weeks(years) would it take to scan a field the size of a football pitch with a 5.75 concentric coil, at max depth your only scanning an area the size of a dime, lol my garrett can pick up a coin 12 inchs + your compadre only goes 6 inch GARRETT ACE 250 KICKS COMPADRES BUTT IN “EVERY WAY”

  26. plutoplatters says:

I have the tesoro silver sabre bought it march 1984 works well…found many coins.

  27. Biofilmz says:

Nice review. The sensitivity to small gold items by this detector is outstanding.
