looking for advice on beginner metal detector?
my son is 12, he had a cheap one that fell apart and now wants one that will last. i was looking at mp3 , ace 150, and lone star made by bounty hunter. any advice will be helpful. looking for on with at least a lcd. thank you
Hi There,
Garrett makes some excellent entry level detectors, and the Ace 150 is one of them, but for a little more moneyI would upgrade to the Ace 250.
It has a few more features that your son will want to use after he's used the machine for a while. It's a reliable detector with average depth, and many people I know started with an Ace 250,have kept them as a backup and still use them in certain situations.
If purchased new, the Ace 250 averages around 212.00 vs 153.00 for the Ace 150. When they're available, I've seen them go used on Ebay for a lot less.
Some others worth considering are the Whites Prizm models and the Tesoro Silver Umax which are in that price range. The Tesoro is a great machine, but does not have a readout.
I'll include a link to my Ebay site and a few forum links for you to do more research. It's not sales hype you'll get, but opinions from actual users.
