Diving Metal

Diving off of Smitty’s Cove, we went out in three teams of two. Scott, the dive shop owner, and his partner went out to lay the line. The second group had the camera and would photograph this. Justin and I would bring up the rear, getting the data on the direction, depth, and distance of each station.

These things here are what we call giant wiffle balls. They’re made of metal and are about 3 feet in diameter. There’s a large cluster of them with a lot of biota living inside them. This was the third tie-off with the cave line. The initial tie-off was at the base of the boat ramp. The second tie-off was at the crane operator’s box.

The following sequence of shots shows our return from our deepest part of the dive back to shore. This was because I was busy recording data on the way out.

How To Choose A Waterproof Metal Detector

Article by Tristram Rover

If you’re diving in to underwater metal detecting, then you need a waterproof metal detector. Listed here are some things to consider before you settle on a model.

MetalDetectors.com

First, you’ll want to know the distinction between the three primary types of waterproof metal detectors.

Pulse Induction (PI) metal detectors are nice for diving and salt water seashores, since they are not affected by ground minerals or wet salt sand. They use fast electronic pulses, are deep seeking and are very sensitive to precious metals though not very discriminatory between them and junk items.

Very Low Frequency (VLF) metal detectors discriminate better than PI detectors and are great for locating coins, relics and jewelery. They are affected by ground minerals however most have controls to overcome this.

Broad Band Spectrum (BBS) detectors use simultaneous, multiple frequency signals and are very delicate overall.

Where will you be treasure hunting? All of these kind of waterproof metal detectors will work in and around fresh water, but for salt water you will want either a PI or a BBS detector.

If you’ll be diving, ensure you get a waterproof metal detector that’s rated for the depths that you intend to dive. Better to get one rated for deeper depths than you suppose you’ll need. Additionally, be certain it has a short dive pole, so it’s more comfortable to make use of while snorkeling or diving.

Additionally, you will wish to get some accessories that can make your overall water hunting simpler and more convenient. A carry bag affords protection, and makes it easy to grab and go everytime you want. For beach searching, a trowel and sand scoop are essential. be sure that to get a sifter scoop for simpler sifting through layers of sand. headphones are another must-have. Most waterproof metal detectors come with waterproof headphones, but it is always good to have extra.

When you’re buying your waterproof metal detector, let the vendor know what kinds of targets you will be in search of and where you’ll be doing your hunting. They are going to be able to advise you in deeper detail about options and features you might want to have, and provide you with some first-hand field experience with several different models. So before you dive in, do your analysis and know what you want, and what you don’t. Then you will get a detector that may bring you hours of enjoyment, and hopefully some excellent treasure!
